Water Lily Magic

Nature Magic heals. Flower Magic inspires. Beauty soothes my soul.

I am feeling grateful for my happy place. For time to walk. And time to sit. For cygnets and water lilies and red-winged blackbirds. For birds chirping and insects buzzing. For the sweet smell of the air.

Life is good.

Torn Asunder

I wasn’t sure if “annihilation” was the word I needed at the end, so I checked its meaning. In addition to the common meaning, there’s this:

Physics.

Also called pair annihilation. the process in which a particle and antiparticle unite, annihilate each other, and produce one or more photons.

Open sleep-shut eyes
Unplug lie-glued ears
Behold Rainbow Life

Elusive Dream

Cars. Lawnmowers. Jets.
Unmelodic, disharmonious machines
disrupt my poem.
Persistent, distressing noises
destroy my peace.

If I listen with my eyes,
immerse myself in still waters,
equilibrium is restored,
For a moment,
desire to drown.

Hope (not)

Foolish foibled fantasy
Encouraging lie
Faulty persuasion

masquerading as comfort
does not absolve wickedness

Unleash fount of creation.
Revive half-dead hope.

Peace-Seekers’ Benediction

The calm before the storm titillates,
tantilizes with its foreboding foretelling.

Sooner or later,
eletric bolts and gods’ chest-thumping
chase creatues into lairs, or snares,
to wait out the purge.

Venture out
with slowness, in silence.

Cleansed leaves glisten.
Sweet scents delight.
Birdsong resumes
in the calm after the storm.

How Now?

How can I be
Lost in a sea
   an ocean
   a multiverse
of obfuscation

Swimming in despondency
Flailing through atrocity
Sensing expansiveness
Failing to grasp the life-ring: clarity

How can I crawl
Survive vicious brawl
   viscous battle
   world war
of Dark versus Light

Lying low and hiding
Weeping, quivering, biding
Feeling terror
Too weak to reach helping hands that might not be there

How can I fly
Glide through the sky
   the cosmos
   the omniverse
of potentiality

Soar in delight
Enjoy day and night
Drenched in magnificence
Living free

Heart Prayer

demenamaryM

‘Mary Magdalene in Penance’ Pedro de Mena, 1664

You can only pray what's in your heart

so if your heart is being ripped from your chest
pray the tearing

if your heart is full of bitterness
pray it to the last dreg

if your heart is a river gone wild
pray the torrent

or a lava flow scorching the mountain
pray the fire

pray the scream in your heart
the fanning bellows

pray the rage, the murder
and the mourning

pray your heart into the great quiet hands that can hold it
like the small bird it is.

~ Elizabeth Cunningham in Small Bird: poems & prayers, shared with permission

Elizabeth Cunningham is the author of my favorite series of books, The Maeve ChroniclesFour books. Stories of Love. Incredible characters. Narrated in the magnificent voice of one woman.
